Twin brothers, Joel and Benji were born on the 11th of March 1979. Into a lower middle-class family in the small town of Waldorf, Maryland.

At the young age of 16, Benji began to teach himself guitar. But Joel escalated towards lead vocals. Immediately, Joel and Benji started writing songs, and thinking up catchy riffs. Slowly, but surely, Good Charlotte was forming.

Soon they had another guitarist, Billy Martin. And a Bassist, Paul Thomas. And a drummer, Chris. Good Charlotte took their name from a children's book and played their first gig in a neighbours basement for an audience of 20. 

They were always dedicated to their music. Although they had almost no money for any equipment, and had no connections in the industry. They made their first demo, wrote a bio and mailed off packages to a list of record companies they found in a magazine.

Good Charlotte have always been pigeon-holed throughout their music career. But they just want to be respected for the music they make.
