Speedway are a 4 piece band from Glasgow. The line up follows: Jill Jackson (Vocals and Guitar) Tom Swann (Bassist) Chris Leonard (Guitarist) and Jim Duguid (Drummer)
At the end of the year 2002, Speedway were performing at Glasgow's infamous King Tut's Wah Wah Hut. With their on-stage charisma and unique music style, they caught the eye of Hugh Goldsmith head of Innocent Records. With Speedway now signed to Innocent Records, they were destined for great things.
Front woman, 23 year old Jill Jackson is from Paisley. Performing runs in her genes. Her grandmother was an opera singer and her grandfather was a magician. The first few times Jill entered the spotlight. There was just her, a guitar and some country songs. She soon formed a band in the winter of 1998...
Glasgow born Jim Duguid, spent his early years listening to the Beatles and ACDC. He had always dreamt of being a drummer. As soon as he was old enough, he took up the drums and joined a band. But, after seeing Irish sensations, U2. He decided a change of direction was needed. Enter Jill Jackson. Soon, two became four and Bassist: Tom Swann and Guitarist: Chris Leonard became part of the band...soon named, Speedway.
2003 has been a tremendous year for the band. Their debut AA single was a blistering version of Genie In A Bottle backed with the impressively catchy Save Yourself, an original Speedway song. It went straight into the top ten in August.
Speedway cemented their growing reputation as an exciting live band throughout the year, turning in accomplished performances at T In The Park and the V Festival in addition to several university tours.
If 2003 is anything to go by, 2004 will put Speedway well and truly on the musical map.
